Commemorative events 2012

 

Many people from Olgiate Olona and from other towns attended the commemoration of June 26, 2012, a solemn and sober ceremony performed at 16.33 UTC in front of the memorial of “via 26 Giugno”: some relatives of the seventy immortal lives coming from USA, Switzerland, Italy (who read the ecumenical our Father in English and French); Elen Downes (pastor of the Anglican Church of Milan, already present at the ceremony of 2009) and don Sergio Perego (parson of Olgiate Olona) who recited the ecumenical prayer; Olgiate Olona mayor Giorgio Volpi who made the commemorative speech; Paolo Pettinaroli (president of Comitato 8 ottobre per non dimenticare committee, attending with some relatives of victims of Milan-Linate air disaster) who greeted the people present; the military authorities; the students of junior high school of Olgiate Olona participants of the educational project (carried out with a conversation in the classroom and the development at home of a written composition inspired by the memory of June 26, 1959), including the authors of ten finalist works (all rewarded with merit certificate, the first three classified rewarded with a book-coupon).

Invited by “Comitato 8 ottobre” committee, on October 8, 2012 mayor Giorgio Volpi and Alberto Colombo represented the town of Olgiate Olona at the commemoration of the victims of Milan-Linate disaster celebrated in Milan and at two other events: July 15, 2012 inauguration of Parco 8 ottobre in Samarate (hometown of Laura Fogliani and Roberto Gatti); November 11, 2012 unveil of the memorial stone Linate 8 ottobre 2001 per non dimenticare located in front of Villa Oliva in Cassano Magnago (hometown of Andrea Conte).
