Commemorative events 1993
In 1993, with permission of the Municipality of Olgiate Olona, the young families Group of Legnano-Santi Martiri parish restored the memorial monument (the original marble slabs were replaced and a black and white ceramic tile reproducing a painting by artist Claudio Palma from Legnano was inserted into the monument) - the tile was removed in 2014: the monument was given back the memory connotations of all the seventy immortal lives, and to meet the request of Mary Belknap’s relatives who did not recognize their beloved one in the person in the portrait - and set the surrounding area free by vegetation. Then a Mass of suffrage was organized and celebrated by Olgiate Olona parson Don Eligio Genoni on Saturday June 26, 1993, at 5.33 p.m.; the celebration was attended by the representatives of the Municipality, Italian Red Cross and military Authorities, relatives of some victims (the son of relief pilot Harry Louis Stanton was amongst them) and TWA officials and employees working at Milan-Malpensa Airport.
