Commemorative events 2010

In order to provide continuity and forward-looking strength to the efforts made before and after the 50th anniversary of the plane crash and to the symbolism that the “journey of memory” is based on, an educational project in memory of June 26, 1959, has been started in the school year 2009-2010, thanks to the intuition of Alberto Colombo, the support of the Municipal Administration and the cooperation of “Beato Contardo Ferrini” Institute of Olgiate Olona.
This project is addressed to eighth-grade students of “Dante Alighieri” junior high school: conversation in the classroom with multimedia presentation that covers historical fact and commemorative events; possibility for the students to ask questions and get clarifications; screening of video of the song Olgiate Olona, 26 Giugno 1959 composed by Nicola Puddu; production at home of a written work inspired to June 26, 1959.
The outcome of the educational project was very positive as regard to the texts in poetry and prose: works were received anonymous then selected and judged by a jury outside the school; ten worthiest works - those that best reflect the historical fact and the meaning of memory, culminating in commemorative events - were rewarded during the commemoration of June 26, 2010 (all the authors received a certificate and the authors of first three works classified, read publicly, received a book-coupon).

Many people attended the commemoration of June 26, 2010: people from Olgiate Olona, some relatives of the seventy immortal lives coming from USA and Italy (other relatives of victims from Canada, United Kingdom and Switzerland came to Olgiate Olona in the weeks before and after the day of commemoration), mayor Giorgio Volpi who made the commemorative speech, the military authorities.
